Library to Focus on Fashion in January

A variety of fashion programs will take place in January as the Schaumburg Library celebrates Focus on Fashion Month. Programs will take place at the Central Library, 130 S. Roselle Rd. in Schaumburg; the Hoffman Estates Branch, 1550 Hassell Rd.; and the Hanover Park Branch, 1266 Irving Park Rd. All of the programs are free and do not require any experience. Focus on Fashion Month will begin with Three Second Earrings for children ages 9-12 years. Participants will make their own earrings from 1-2 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 5 in the Central Library's Craft Room. Paper People Fashion, for children ages 6-8 years, will take place from 4-4:45 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 10 at the Hoffman Estates Branch; and Thursday, Jan. 12 at the Hanover Park Branch.

Teens are welcome to get creative in the DIY Emoji Pillows craft program from 2-3:30 p.m., Monday, Jan. 16 in the Central Library's Teen Place. No sewing experience is required.

Adults are invited to Decades of Dresses from 7-8 p.m., Monday, Jan. 16 in the Central Library's Rasmussen Room. Vintage dress collector Ruth Thomas will model dresses from each decade of the 20th Century while sharing a brief history of each dress showcased.

Students ages 9-12 years who would like to learn basic sewing techniques are welcome to attend the Simple Hand Sewing workshop from 4-5 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 17 in the Central Library's Craft Room. Younger children, ages 6-8 years, may participate in the Dot and Dash Fashion Show from 4-5 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 18 in the Central Library Craft Room. Robots, costumes and coding will all be part of this event.

Adults who like to wear scarves may enjoy To Knot or Not: Stylish Scarves, from 6:30-7:30 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 19 in the Central Library's Adult Classroom. Participants will learn stylish and easy new ways to wear scarves.

No-Sew Fashions is open to 9-12-year-olds from 4-4:45 p.m. at the Hanover Park Branch. Kids will create useful accessories without a needle, threat or sewing machine.

January will finish up with more fashion programs, including an all-ages fashion show from 3-4 p.m., Sunday, Jan. 22 in the lobby of the Central Library. Anyone who is interested in participating in the show may fill out the online form at SchaumburgLibrary.org/fashion-show.
