Authorities: 1 dead in small plane crash in Illinois

MARENGO, Ill. (AP) - Authorities in northern Illinois say one person is dead after a small plane crashed into a cornfield.

The McHenry County coroner has not yet identified the victim.

Marengo Fire Department officials say the plane crashed either Friday night or Saturday morning and only one person was onboard.

The Federal Aviation Administration and National Transportation Safety Board are investigating. Officials believe it was a single-engine plane.

FFA officials say it's a home-built plane that crashed under unknown circumstances.
