Sign up for Palatine Library's Winter Reading Challenge and Give Back

Palatine Library Winter Reading Challenge begins Monday, December 26 through Tuesday, January 31. For a second year in a row, participants are challenged to help those in need in the community -just by reading! When all participants read a combined total of 5000 books, Palatine Bank and Trust, and Warehouse Direct will each donate $1,000 to Journeys ǀ The Road Home-a nonprofit agency that provides shelter, social services, and housing to the homeless in north/northwest suburban Cook County. The agency consists of PADS Shelter Program, HOPE Center Supportive Services Program, and Pathways Housing Readiness Program, focusing on intervention and assistance for those in need. For more information, visit www.journeystheroadhome.org.

All valid District cardholders may participate in the Winter Reading Challenge with their own Library card. Sign up is easy! Visit www.palatinelibrary.org and manage your reading progress, or come to any Library location and staff will help you. Sign up and receive a wintery registration prize-while supplies last! Sponsored by the Friends of Palatine Library.

Look for weekly Winter Reading Challenge updates at the Main Library and online to see how many books have been read. Upon finishing the program, participants will be entered into a drawing by age category (child, teen, or adult) for a chance to win an amazing gift basket filled with incredible prizes, generously donated by Palatine area businesses.

In the spirit of giving back, Palatine Library is offering two more opportunities to help the community with a Winter Gear Drive and making Holiday Cards to Cheer Those in Need. From December 1 - 31, bring NEW winter survival gear (coats, hats, gloves, thick socks, blankets, hand warmers, and more) to the Main Library and these items will be donated to JOURNEYS. Additionally, on December 8, from 6:30 - 8:30 p.m., drop in at the Main Library to create and decorate holiday cards for JOURNEYS' clients/guests, to help spread some holiday cheer and kindness to those in need.

Palatine Public Library District (www.palatinelibrary.org) is your destination for knowledge, entertainment, and community. The Library serves approximately 90,000 residents predominantly within the communities of Palatine and Hoffman Estates.
