Suburban overpass named after state trooper who was killed

HOFFMAN ESTATES, Ill. (AP) - An overpass in suburban Chicago has been named in honor of an Illinois State Trooper who was killed in the line of duty two decades ago.

In a news release, the state police says that the Interstate 90/Illinois State Route 59 overpass in Hoffman Estates has been designated the Chong Lim Memorial Overpass.

Trooper Chong Soo Lim was parked on Interstate 90 after writing tickets when a pickup truck slammed into his squad car on the night of June 5, 1995, causing his vehicle to burst into flames.

Lim went to Von Steuben High School in Chicago and the University of Illinois at Chicago before becoming a state trooper in 1990.
