Wheeling Township Delivers 910 lbs of Treats To Support Military Personnel

Wheeling Township held a donation drive during the month of November to show our support for active military personnel serving in harm's way around the globe. The donation drive benefitted Naperville-based nonprofit organization, Operation Support Our Troops America (OSOT-America), which sends hundreds of 'comfort packages' to active service men and women.

Wheeling Township's November donation drive was inspirational AND successful, with well over 900 pounds of gum, chips, crackers, toiletries, new socks, and literally hundreds of pounds of Halloween candy being donated by local residents. Citizens also donated $1,005 to help defray the high costs of postage.

Members of Wheeling Township also took the time to hand-write 500+ personal cards and letters; many were very emotional. One Cub Scout wrote: "Thank you for keeping me safe -be careful!" Others included personal military notes about one of their loved ones: "My Dad served in WWII. I know we're free today because of him and guys like you still serving; thank you."

OSOT-America, founded in 2003, has mailed more than 4,000 comfort packages this year alone, along with 3,500 Christmas stockings. Every month, volunteers put together hundreds of 25-lb 'comfort packages' for troops around the world to let them know they are being supported and thought of.
