Free holiday movies Saturday in Arlington Heights

Paragon Theaters in downtown Arlington Heights and Village President Tom Hayes are hosting a "Movie with the Mayor" event Saturday morning, when guests can get free admission with the donation of a nonperishable food item.

Holiday festivities at the theater kick off at 9 a.m., followed by the showing of "The Polar Express" and "Elf" at 10 a.m. Cub Scouts from Pack 129 will be collecting food donations to benefit the Wheeling Township Food Pantry.

The theater also is offering free popcorn for each new unwrapped toy donation to support Toys for Tots, though donations of stuffed animals are discouraged.

Florida-based Paragon Theaters recently acquired the theater at 53 S. Evergreen Ave., formerly called the Star Cinema Grill, and before that the Arlington Theaters.
