Fremont students shop for families in need

About 135 students from Fremont District 79 assembled Thursday morning at the Target store in Mundelein to purchase items for needy families in Fremont Township.

The multiage classroom students from Fremont Elementary and Intermediate School compared prices, colors and quality of clothing and toys during the shopping spree.

Before the event, classroom teachers were given information about families who've fallen on hard times and could find buying holiday gifts difficult this year. Children in those families range in age from infants to 18 years old.

Students shopped with parent volunteers and had around $50 to spend. They raised money through donations and by performing chores or other activities.

Students shopped for dolls, games, Legos, books and clothes. They also wrapped the presents following the shopping spree.
