Longtime state Rep. Franks now leading McHenry County Board

WOODSTOCK, Ill. (AP) - Longtime state Rep. Jack Franks is moving from Democratic maverick in the Illinois House to leading the heavily Republican McHenry County Board.

The Northwest Herald reports (http://bit.ly/2g60Iwp ) that Monday was Franks' first official day on the job as board chairman.

In a speech prior to his first board meeting, the Marengo Democrat said he wants to work with other board members to reduce taxes, improve roads and provide higher-quality services to residents.

Franks has served since 1999 in the Illinois House, where he was known for breaking with his party, particularly on tax and spending issues.

McHenry County voters elected him chairman last month.

Franks' 63rd House District seat will be filled in January by Republican Steven Reick. He won election in November, helping Republicans pick up four House seats.
