Kids 'Shop with a Sheriff' Tuesday in Mundelein

The Lake County Sheriff's Association and members of the community provided 50 kids with $100 each for a spending spree Tuesday at the Mundelein Target store. The association, with support of the Lake County sheriff's office, holds the annual "Shop with a Sheriff" program to benefit less fortunate children.

The event gives kids the opportunity to buy Christmas presents with a uniformed deputy or corrections officer.

School counselors select students from around Lake County to participate. The children were encouraged to buy shoes, coats and clothing, as well as toys.

College of Lake County, the state's attorney's office, dispatch personnel and the Lake County coroner's office were also invited to help with the event.
