No injuries in Round Lake Park house fire

Four people escaped injury from a Round Lake Park house fire early Monday, authorities said.

The 7 a.m. fire sparked in a back bedroom of the house in the 500 block of Hillcrest Terrace and quickly spread to the rest of the structure, Police Chief George Filenko said. Two children aged 4 and 6 were in the bedroom when they came running out and alerted their grandparents, Filenko said.

The four ran from the building moments before it became fully engulfed in flames, Filenko said. The house did have working smoke detectors.

The Round Lake Area Fire Protection District was called in to extinguish the blaze, but the fire destroyed the house, Filenko said. A damage estimate is unknown.

A preliminary investigation shows fire appears to be accidental, but it is under investigation, he said.
