Mussman reminds seniors of new anti-fraud law

With the holiday season approaching, state Rep. Michelle Mussman of Schaumburg is reminding seniors of the new law she passed to help protect them from fraud.

House Bill 5805, which Mussman introduced in the Illinois House and which was signed into law in August, extends the statute of limitations from three years to seven for financial exploitation of elderly or disabled persons, or crimes against them involving the theft of more than $100,000 of real or personal property.

This type of exploitation is one of the fastest-growing forms of abuse of seniors and disabled adults, robbing them of their retirement security.

Mussman said she has actively worked with the senior and disabled community, holding various events throughout the 56th District to highlight the resources available.
