Mississippi State DE Anfernee Mullins to transfer

STARKVILLE, Miss. (AP) - Mississippi State defensive end Anfernee Mullins says he's planning to transfer.

Mullins announced his intentions Friday in a post on Twitter.

In the post, Mullins thanked Coach Dan Mullen for the opportunity to play at MSU but said he felt it's "best for me to pursue my education and football career elsewhere."

The university wouldn't confirm Mullins' announcement but said the Twitter account is his.

The Clarion-Ledger reports (http://on.thec-l.com/2gSC02u ) the freshman appeared in only three games after redshirting last year. His second season was sidetracked with an April misdemeanor arrest for simple assault.

Mullins was rated as a three-star prospect coming out of Aliceville, Alabama. He is the third player to explore options other than Mississippi State since the Egg Bowl. Quarterbacks Damian Williams and Nick Tiano are also transferring.
