St. Viator notches first win

St. Viator's girls basketball team earned its first win of the season with a 52-42 nonconference victory at St. Viator on Saturday afternoon in Arlington Heights.

Leading the Lions (1-5) on the scoreboard were juniors Olivia Solimene (19 points, one 3-pointer), Myia Clark (14 points with four 3-pointers) and Michaela Mueller (13 points).

Pacing the Cougars (2-5) was senior Jorie Wachal, who tossed home a game-high 25 points with two 3-pointers.

Teammates Cate Fitzgerald added 7 and Brittany Laskero 6 as each hit a 3-pointer.

North Lawndale 54, Rolling Meadows 52: North Lawndale scored the winning basket at the buzzer to edge the Mustangs (6-3) in the Chicagoland Invitational Classic at Fremd.

North Lawndale (Class 3A) was the third 2016 state runner-up that Meadows had played in the past seven days.

Senior Morgan Campagna led Meadows with a career-high 23 points.

"Morgan Campagna kept us in the game with her aggressiveness on offense and rebounding," said Mustangs coach Ryan Kirkorsky, who also received 16 points from senior guard Kyra Spiwak.

Junior guard DeAsa Almon, who had 13 points in the state title game against Morton last season, led North Lawndale with 16 points and three 3-pointers.

Maine South 53, Elk Grove 30: Isabel Michniak (9 points) and Jenny Banak (8 points, two 3-pointers) led host Elk Grove (2-6) in the nonconference game.
