Realignment at IPFW campus one step closer with trustee OK

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (AP) - Indiana University trustees have voted to approve splitting the Indiana University - Purdue University Fort Wayne campus.

Thursday's vote was 7-2 to approve realignment, which is pending approval from Purdue University trustees on Dec. 16. The new structure would take effect on July 1, 2018 at the 13,000-student campus.

Under it Indiana University would focus on health and sciences along with the Indiana University Medical School in Fort Wayne. Purdue would handle all other academics and transfer its nursing, radiography and dental education programs to Indiana University.

Leaders from both schools announced the plan to split the campus in April. They said the goal would be to reverse enrollment decline, improve the rate of student success and strengthen the school's contribution to northwest Indiana.
