15-year-old boy in wheelchair dies in Indianapolis fire

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) - Indianapolis Fire officials say a teenager who needed a wheelchair to get around was killed by a fast-moving blaze that damaged two homes on the city's east side.

Thirty-nine-year-old Elijah Turner told authorities he was home with his 15-year-old cousin, Abraham Lowe, when a fire broke out near the stove shortly after 6 p.m. Thursday. He tried to put the fire out with a bucket of water, but was pushed back by the heat and flames.

He evacuated but was unable to find his cousin.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. No one was at the second home when the fire started.

Lowe was a freshman at Warren Central High School. Fire official say the school plans to have counselors for students on Friday.
