Standing in solidarity with the vulnerable

I'm not a fan of the protesters. Trump won. We all need to move on. I don't think most of the people who voted for Trump are racist, bigots, homophobes, xenophobes or misogynists. Most of his supporters are angry, left behind in the new economy. They want to get rid of the elite - the establishment politicians and the media.

The new economy is failing them. But, globalization and automation are not going away. Those lost jobs are not coming back. Trump won by pitting people against each other. That's why I will wear the safety pin.

I am not a whining liberal. I don't agree with all the policies of the Democratic Party. I simply believe in the Golden Rule.

Truth told, I live in a bubble. I don't have close friends who are Muslim, gay, transgender, immigrants, Jewish or disabled. I wear the safety pin because I am a human who respects other humans.

For me, character and words matter. Trump may be different in "real life." On the trail he was a bully. He tweeted and acted exactly opposite of how we teach our kids to behave. He insulted the pope, POWs, women, Hispanics, Muslims, immigrants, a disabled man, a judge and the press. His insults were personal, not simply, "I disagree with her policy because I believe it will hurt America." He said Clinton should be drug tested and called on his supporters to use their 2nd Amendment rights to stop her.

If he had won the popular vote but not the electoral vote, he would call the election rigged. He's done so in the past.

Trump is now our president. I will give him a chance, although I'm not impressed by some of his early decisions.

Truly, I am sad for America. I stand in solidarity with the vulnerable. That's why I wear a safety pin.
