Tarkington awarded $2,150 library grant

Tarkington Elementary School was selected as a grant recipient through bestselling author James Patterson's School Library Campaign. Tarkington will receive $2,150 to update its library collection and advance its goals as a "No Excuses University."

Tarkington, as a "No Excuses University," encourages students, even at elementary age, to think about and plan for college and career. Grant funding will help Tarkington update its library collection, to include non-fiction, age-appropriate books about college planning and careers.

"Our students are eager for more information about colleges and careers," said Ryann Rivers, Tarkington Library Media Teacher. "I can't wait to add to our library's collection to continue fostering enthusiasm in our children's futures."

Tarkington was one of thousands of schools nationwide to apply for the grant. The award also includes matching "bonus points" from Scholastic Reading Club that Tarkington teachers can use to acquire books and other classroom materials.

Since the grant program's launch in 2015, Patterson has donated more than $3.5 million to school libraries nationwide.
