Blake Griffin sits out Clippers' game in Brooklyn to rest

NEW YORK (AP) - Clippers leading scorer Blake Griffin is sitting out his first game of the season to rest.

Coach Doc Rivers says the Clippers had identified Tuesday's game in Brooklyn long ago as one Griffin would miss. It gives him a couple extra days off before Los Angeles visits NBA champion Cleveland on Thursday.

Rivers says Paul Pierce, who has appeared in just two games this season, would start in place of Griffin, who averages 21.1 points and 8.7 rebounds.
