Notre Dame home to international nativity exhibition

SOUTH BEND, Ind. (AP) - For the third year in a row the University of Notre Dame is the site of an international nativity exhibition.

The South Bend school has Christmas nativity scenes recreated by cultures from around the world on display in six campus buildings. The displays started Monday and run through Jan. 31.

The International Creche Exhibit and Pilgrimage features 30 nativities on loan from the Marian Library at the University of Dayton.

The theme of this year's event is "The Friendly Beasts: Imagining the Animals at Christ's Nativity." The nativities selected for the exhibit include a diverse array of animals, including donkeys, sheep, cows, alligators, frogs, a polar bear and rooster.

Booklets are available at all six sites for self-guided tours. The annual pilgrimage tour will be Sunday.
