Aurora cops hunt hit-and-run driver

Aurora police are asking the public for help to find a driver who caused a hit-and-run crash on Thanksgiving night that left a 97-year-old Aurora woman hospitalized in critical condition.

Police say the crash occurred about 7:55 p.m. Nov. 24 at the intersection of Asbury and Saratoga drives on the city's far east side.

A 48-year-old Wheaton man told police he had just turned south on Asbury from Saratoga when the offender's vehicle, possibly a white pickup truck, veered into the same lane and struck his 2007 Chevrolet Cobalt head-on. The pickup was last seen heading north on Asbury.

The crash knocked the Cobalt backward and it struck an unoccupied 2009 Honda Accord parked on Saratoga.

The 97-year-old woman was seated in the front passenger seat and suffered numerous broken bones. She was airlifted to a suburban hospital after receiving treatment at Rush Copley Medical Center in Aurora.

The driver of the Chevy and another passenger, a 73-year-old Chicago woman who was in the back seat, were treated at Rush-Copley for injuries that were not life-threatening.

Police said they have no information other than the vague description of the offender's vehicle.

Anyone with information is asked to call Aurora police traffic investigators at (630) 256-5330 or Aurora Area Crime Stoppers at (630) 892-1000. Callers to Crime Stoppers may remain anonymous and qualify for a cash reward of up to $5,000 for information that leads to any arrests.
