Brunner reaches 1,000 points; No. 23 Arizona State women win

LAS VEGAS (AP) - Senior Sophie Brunner scored 15 points to top 1,000 career points and No. 23 Arizona State beat St. John's 54-41 to conclude the South Point Thanksgiving Shootout on Saturday.

Brunner became the 22nd Sun Devil to reach the 1,000 mark.

Quinn Dornstauder added 12 points for Arizona State (3-2), which led 30-19 at halftime and snapped a two-game losing streak. Brunner and Dornstauder combined to hit 12 of 18 field-goal attempts.

St. John's was held to seven points in the second quarter and Arizona State had a 30-19 lead at the break. The Red Storm pulled to 32-23 early in the third but Reili Richardson gave Arizona State a double-digit lead with a basket and it stayed that way until the final whistle.

Aaliyah Lewis led St. John's (2-3) with 12 points and Alisha Kebbe added a career-best 11. The Red Storm made just 15 of 47 field-goal attempts (31.9 percent), including 1 of 9 3-pointers.
