WACO signs on as first all-school sponsor for D54 Foundation's Food 4 Thought breakfast program

The District 54 Education Foundation is pleased to announce that the Woodfield Area Children's Organization has signed on as the first all-school sponsor for the Foundation's Food 4 Thought breakfast program.

WACO is sponsoring Addams Junior High for the 2016-17 school year, and their generous donation will provide breakfast for all students in need at that school throughout the year.

Nearly one-third of District 54 students qualify for the federal free lunch program, and while District 54 receives state and federal funds for the lunch program, schools that want to offer breakfast programs to our students in need must raise the money on their own. Currently School District 54 is funding breakfast programs at eight schools for nearly 1,200 eligible students, and breakfast programs were launched at an additional nine schools for more than 1,000 eligible students in early October with a $45,000 donation from the D54 Foundation.

"The D54 Foundation has committed to funding breakfast programs for students from financially struggling families at all District 54 schools to ensure that students begin their day ready to learn," said Foundation Chairman Thomas Manzardo. "As we enter the season of thanks and giving, we hope that individuals, businesses and organizations will consider making a difference in the life of a child in our community by donating to the D54 Foundation's Food 4 Thought program."

• $1 buys breakfast for a student for a day.

• $200 buys breakfast for a student for a year.

• $10,000 sponsors an entire school for a year.
