Tommy Baldwin Racing sells charter to Leavine Family Racing

CONCORD, N.C. (AP) - Tommy Baldwin Racing has sold its NASCAR Sprint Cup charter to Leavine Family Racing.

Regan Smith drives the No. 7 Chevrolet for TBR. Smith has two top-10 finishes this season and was eighth in the Daytona 500.

Baldwin was noncommittal about remaining in NASCAR in some form. He says there, "have been many teams like ours that have come and gone. I'm proud that we have been able to sustain ourselves from the very beginning."

Bob and Sharon Leavine have been active in NASCAR since 2010 when they became sponsors in the NASCAR Nationwide Series and NASCAR Camping World Truck Series. Leavine Family Racing was formed in 2011 and has grown to an organization employing 25 people with a race shop in Concord, N.C.

Michael McDowell has made 30 starts this season driving for Leavine Family Racing.

NASCAR shifted to a franchise-like system this season intended to provide actual value and financial stability to team owners after decades of heavy reliance on sponsors.
