Efforts underway to display historic fire engine in Sycamore

SYCAMORE, Ill. (AP) - Efforts are underway in the northern Illinois community of Sycamore to find a place to display a newly restored 1923 fire engine.

Retired Fire Chief Gene Ege tells The (DeKalb) Daily Chronicle (http://bit.ly/2fhuiLd ) that the Sycamore Fire Preservation Company recently completed bodywork on the Stutz model. He says the engine was the first motorized fire engine to pump water from a hydrant in Sycamore. It was in operation from 1923 to 1957.

Ege says the engine sold at public auction in 1966 and went through three or four different owners until it was available for sale and the group bought it in 2001.

Ege says the group is working with the Sycamore History Museum to create a permanent display. Museum officials say the engine is an important part of the city's history.
