Glen Ellyn cops investigating fight, looking for gun

Glen Ellyn police are investigating a fight that broke out Wednesday morning in an extended-stay hotel on the 600 block of Roosevelt Road near Park Boulevard.

One man was taken into custody after people involved in the fight told police he was carrying a gun and entered a room at the Budgetel Inn where the skirmish ensued around 6:45 a.m., Assistant Police Chief Bill Holmer said.

The man fled the hotel south to Panfish Park and apparently tossed the gun into a pond, Holmer said.

The first officers to arrive at the scene saw the man running into the park, pursued him on foot and saw him "throw objects" into the pond before he was taken into custody, according to a news release.

Police roped off the pond, and the Naperville police dive team helped with the search of the water for the gun.

The man was taken to an area hospital after he complained of having trouble breathing, Holmer said.

"There's nobody at large," he said.

There is some indication the individuals involved in the fight knew each other, Holmer said.

As of 9 p.m. officers had not reported that the gun had been found.
