Kane prosecutor: Election hotline complaints down from 2012
Kane County State's Attorney Joe McMahon said no major incidents were reported at polls during last week's election, and complaints of electioneering were higher in 2012.
McMahon said Tuesday his assistant state's attorneys visited every polling place last week and calls to his office's election hotline received only 16 calls compared to 48 during the last presidential election.
President-elect Donald Trump had complained for weeks the Nov. 8 election was "rigged," and McMahon acknowledged there was "nervousness and trepidation" going into the day.
"All in all, I thought it was an example of a well-run, orderly election and I am grateful for that," he said, adding the 16 calls were a "significant drop" compared to four years ago.
McMahon said many of the calls were for electioneering - placing signs too close to polling places. Other complaints included polling booths placed too close together; one voter complained an election judge requested a photo ID; and a news organization was exit polling inside the polling facility instead of outside.
McMahon said an election judge may ask to see an ID if the judge has concerns the person's signature doesn't match the one on file. "That's more the exception than the rule," he added.
