Police: Van driver cited for killing boy, 2, injuring woman
CHICAGO (AP) - Several traffic citations have been handed the driver of a van that allegedly struck and killed a 2-year-old boy and injured a woman as they crossed a Chicago street.
Police say 48-year-old Alexander Vasquez was cited with failure to stop at a stop sign, failure to reduce speed and failure to yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk.
Vasquez is accused of hitting Noah Katz and the woman on Sunday afternoon as they crossed a street in Chicago's Jefferson Park neighborhood.
Noah and the woman were taken to Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge, where Noah was pronounced dead. Authorities say the woman's injuries were not life-threatening.
Witnesses say the driver of the van, who was taken into custody at the scene, was trying to make a turn at the time.
