Eight face charges following Highland Park student's shooting

A total of eight people face various charges following the shooting of a Highland Park High School student last week, police said.

Police were alerted to Highland Park Hospital at about 5:30 p.m. Thursday for a teen with a gunshot wound being treated in the emergency room.

Officers interviewed the injured youth and learned that an altercation had taken place in the area of Waukegan Avenue and Orchard Lane, just off a bike trail and Green Bay Road, earlier that day. The shots were fired from a passing car, police said.

On Sunday, two vehicles were stopped at about noon in the area of routes 41 and 137 by several investigating agencies. One of the men involved in the stop, William Servin Jr., 19, of North Chicago, was previously identified in the shooting and was observed in one of the vehicles prior to the stop.

Servin Jr. and two other people who were believed to be in the car on Thursday when the victim was shot were arrested on Sunday. Three guns and drugs were recovered from the two vehicles, police said. A total of six adults and two juveniles were charged for various offenses.

Servin Jr. is charged with aggravated discharge of a firearm, reckless discharge of a firearm, mob action, aggravated battery on a public way, unlawful possession of a controlled substance and three counts of aggravated unlawful use of weapons - no FOID, no concealed carry permit and possession of a handgun under 21 years old.

Giles Cassarubius, 19, of Highwood, was charged with aggravated battery in a public way.

Fredy Montoya, 20, of Waukegan, was charged with aggravated discharge of a firearm, reckless discharge of a firearm, mob action, and aggravated battery in a public way.

Kevin Rolon, 18, of Gurnee, was charged with unlawful possession of cannabis, unlawful possession of cannabis with intent to deliver and three counts of aggravated unlawful use of weapons - no FOID, no concealed carry permit and possession of a handgun under 21 years old.

Marco Barete, 25, of Highwood, was charged with unlawful possession of a controlled substance.

Additionally, two juveniles, who cannot be named, are in custody at Lake County's Depke Juvenile Justice Center with the recommended charge of mob action, police said.
