Does Geneva need a new library? Opinions sought at forums

The Geneva Public Library board wants to get the community's opinion about plans to build a new library, and it is having three forums in the next week to do so.

They are at noon Saturday and 10 a.m. and 7 p.m. Tuesday at the library, 127 W. James St.

The district bought land at 210 S. Sixth St. for a new library. The oldest part of the current library is 108 years old.

The library board has hired StudioGC architects to develop plans and estimate costs.

The board has discussed conducting a referendum in April to obtain voters' permission to increase taxes to pay for construction. It plans to decide Dec. 22.
