Sanchez wins in Kane County District 24

Democrat Jarett Sanchez prevailed Tuesday night in the race to represent District 24 on the Kane County Board.

Sanchez had 2,797 votes, or 64.8 percent of the total, while Republican Roben B. Hall had 1,114 votes, or 25.8 percent, with all 10 precincts reporting in Kane County, according to unofficial results.

Both live in Carpentersville and both have long denounced the Longmeadow Parkway project, a proposed 5.6-mile road and toll bridge.

Sanchez called the parkway "oversized and underfunded," and questioned its environmental effect on the Fox River and the Brunner Forest Preserve. Hall said the roadway would be too close to residential areas, which could potentially be noisy and unsafe for the families who live there.

The two candidates also opposed a the redevelopment of the former Settler's Hill landfill in Geneva to include a cross-country course.
