Steve Carlson wins re-election to Lake County Board

Veteran Lake County Board member Steve Carlson was easily re-elected Tuesday.

The Gurnee Republican bested Democratic challenger Mary Turley, also of Gurnee, to retain the 7th District post he's held since 2002. With all 27 precincts reporting, unofficial results put Carlson ahead 8,423 to 6,900.

Carlson and Turley ran campaigns free of political mudslinging, a change from other races on the ballot.

During the campaign, Carlson voiced opposition to the plan to extend Route 53 into Lake County and pledged to work to save some of the buildings that have housed the Lake County Discovery Museum, which is relocating from Wauconda to Libertyville.
