Whelan keeps DuPage forest preserve post

Republican Tim Whelan appears to have retained his seat in the race for the DuPage County Forest Preserve Dist. 4 seat.

Unofficial results show Whelan leading his Democrat challenger Brian Wolter with 57 percent of the vote and all precincts reporting. The seat was the only contested race on the commission.

"I'm very pleased," Whelan said. "I'm proud to be on this board, and I'm proud to return for four more years to continue to do good things for the district and people of DuPage County."

Whelan, a Wheaton attorney, campaigned on his ongoing promise to protect green space while also limiting spending. He has also pledged to continue his efforts to preserve the historic McKee House in the Churchill Woods Forest Preserve.

Wolter, an arborist from Carol Stream, said he wanted to focus on the preservation and health of the district's plant life and on mosquito abatement of the district's common areas.

District 4 covers all or parts of Addison, Bloomingdale, Carol Stream, Glen Ellyn, Glendale Heights, Lisle, Lombard, Wheaton and Winfield.
