McCann, Kearns on top in McHenry County District 6

Incumbent Mary McCann and James Kearns, both Republicans, prevailed in the race to represent McHenry County Board District 6, according to unofficial results.

Kearns had 13,158 votes, or 32.2 percent of the total, and McCann had 12,555 votes, or 30.8 percent, with all 31 precincts reporting. Democrat Cathy Johnson had 21.1 percent of votes and Democrat Andrew Georgi had 15.7 percent.

McCann and Kearns differed on what to do with a roughly $40 million surplus from the county's Valley Hi Nursing Home in Woodstock.

McCann, 71, said the county is looking into borrowing money from Valley Hi's surplus and paying interest on those funds. Kearns, 54, who serves as Grafton Township supervisor, said he believes legally the county cannot use the surplus for anything except the running of Valley Hi.
