No love for uncomfortable love seat

This living room is in desperate need of a facelift. I feel like this living room is an owner's nightmare and an interior designer's dream. It has not been updated in 20-plus years.

The living room floor plan has always been challenging. It has high ceilings, bare walls, long windows, a fireplace and TV, making it very difficult to furnish. I have always hoped for a living room with warmth and beauty - an inviting place for guests and family to come in and sit down comfortably. There is only a love seat in this room, and it's not practical or comfortable to sit in. People often describe it as the "torture seat."

Presently I am working as a substitute school nurse with limited resources. It seems like every time I think I can finally update my living room, the car breaks, the furnace needs replacement, or my teeth fall apart. So guess what never gets done? I think most people in America can relate to that.

For many years I have cared for patients, family and friends in their time of need and put this living room on the bottom of my list. I guess this time I can reach out to the decorators for help and finally have a room with a sofa. Please make my room contemporary, comfortable for all.

Budget: $6,000

This room is filled with odds and ends of furniture and has never been redone. It needs a comfortable seating area that would be great for entertaining and enjoying a fire, as well as relaxing and enjoying a movie or sporting event.

Suggestions:

• Move the placement of the TV and add an attractive console for the extra storage.

• The new configuration allows space for two chairs to flank the TV console and add versatility to the space.

• Use stylish reclining furniture and create a modern feel for the space through accents and detail.
