Geneva library sets community forums to discuss plans for new library

Geneva Public Library District has scheduled community forums this month to discuss plans for expanded library services in a new building at 210 S. Sixth St.

Community meetings will be held in the lower level meeting room at the library, 127 James St.

The forums will be noon Saturday, Nov. 12; and 10 a.m. and 7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 15.

This is an opportunity for the community to meet with library administration and architects, learn about the plans, and provide feedback.

Since the library closed on the purchase of the Sixth Street property last March, the board of trustees has hired architectural firm StudioGC to develop a preliminary building program. The board is working with StudioGC to develop plans and cost estimates for a new library.

The library is landlocked at its current location, and community feedback has been clear that the library must provide additional services and resources, along with study space, meeting space, function rooms, as welll as on-site parking.

In addition, contemporary libraries are evolving to meet community needs to offer resources like drive-up convenience, 3-D printing services, craft rooms, equipment checkout, early literacy play areas, and more.
