Hanover Park swears in new village trustee

Sharmin Shahjahan was sworn in as a new trustee at this week's Hanover Park village board meeting.

She has lived in the community for nearly 10 years, has been a member of the Cultural Inclusion & Diversity Committee since 2010 and was appointed chair of the committee in 2012.

She has a background in finance and has experience in both small business and global corporate environments that she said she feels will provide leadership in spurring business and retail development. She also would like to increase civic engagement by all residents.

Shahjahan was also appointed to the new Special Events Committee.

She will serve out the unexpired term of former Trustee Lisa Trousdale, who resigned last month after being appointed 11 months earlier to fill out the term of Ed Zimel, who also had resigned. The term expires next April.
