Marmion Academy to honor veterans at ceremony

Marmion Academy in Aurora will hold its annual Veterans Day Observance Ceremony at 3:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 11, in the Alumni Hall gymnasium at 1000 Butterfield Road.

The Marmion JROTC Cadet Corps will honor all veterans, especially deceased alumni veterans of war, during the after-school formation and parade. The public is welcome to attend.

The guest of honor for this year's Veterans Day ceremony is the Rev. Paul Weberg, OSB, monk of Marmion Abbey and Army chaplain.

In February 2007, he was commissioned as a chaplain (First Lieutenant) in the Illinois Army National Guard, with weekend and summer assignments. He had four combat deployments. For the last three years, now with a rank of major (September 2012), he served on active duty as a brigade chaplain at Ft. Hood, Texas, and as the chaplain resource manager at Ft. Bragg, North Carolina, being the senior Catholic Priest at both installations. He remains an Army chaplain in the Army Reserve, as an adjunct instructor at the U.S. Army Chaplain Center and School at Ft. Jackson, South Carolina. Fr. Paul has been a Benedictine monk of the Marmion Abbey since 1998 and a Roman Catholic priest since 2003. He was appointed the prior and vocation director of Marmion Abbey in August 2016.

Marmion Academy, a Catholic-Benedictine college preparatory high school for young men, is a community dedicated to spiritual formation, academic excellence and leadership development. For more information, visit www.marmion.org.
