GE narrows potential buyers of Fort Wayne complex to 1

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (AP) - General Electric says it has narrowed the field of potential buyers for its sprawling Fort Wayne campus to one interested party.

GE spokesman Matt Conkrite tells The Journal Gazette (http://bit.ly/2eDdZZf ) the company is negotiating and making "good progress" but can't reveal who that party is yet.

GE officials had previously said that about four proposals had been submitted for the 32-acre campus and its 1.2 million square feet of building space just south of downtown Fort Wayne. The campus has been empty since January 2015.

GE had operated at the site since 1911 and once employed more than 10,000 people producing a wide range of products.

The last jobs were eliminated in 2014.

The GE Campus Coalition and Greater Fort Wayne Inc. have been working with GE in securing a developer.
