Probation officer admits trading for cash, promises of sex
A former Lake County probation officer pleaded guilty Monday to five counts of official misconduct alleging he awarded court-ordered public service hours in exchange for cash and promises of sex.
Anselmo Magana, 45, of Lindenhurst, faces up to five years in prison after pleading guilty to the felony charges in front of Judge Victoria Rossetti. An additional six counts of official misconduct were dropped as part of the plea deal.
Magana, who also could receive a term of probation, is scheduled to be sentenced Dec. 12.
He was charged in 2015 with trading public service hours for money or promises of sex from people on probation between August 2012 and January 2014.
Rossetti said that six total victims were involved in the case.
The charges followed an internal investigation into the allegations that was launched in January 2014 by the Lake County Sheriff's Office Criminal Investigation Division, officials said.
Prosecuting attorney Tom Brown of the Illinois Appellate Prosecutors office and defense attorney Jed Stone did not comment on the case after court Monday.
