Boys cross country: Geneva, Huntley claim regional crowns

The Geneva boys cross country team scored 55 points Saturday to nose out Naperville Central for the team championship of the Class 3A West Chicago regional at Kress Creek Farm.

Tyler Dau (15:07) finished second for the Vikings and Josh Rodgers (15:12) was third. Also scoring were Ryan Kredell (10th), Brian Kuehl (11th) and Scott Creger (29th).

St. Charles East, St. Charles North and Bartlett also advanced to next week's West Aurora sectional. Jake Beno (5th) and Cole Adresso (6th) led the Saints while Kierna Murphy (25th) was the North Stars' top runner. Angelo Peters placed 12th to lead Bartlett.

Advancing individuals included Elgin's Jakob Woemer, Cameron Carranza and Juan Villagomez and Streamwood's Ricardo Villarreal.

Class 3A at Rockford Guilford: Huntley won the team championship with 39 points, paced by a first-place finish from sophomore Jeremy Roe (15:41). Also scoring for the Red Raiders were Ian Geisler (4th), Matt Kapolnek (8th), Jadon Conroy (10th) and Joey Ozzauto (16th). South Elgin also qualified as a team by finishing fifth. Hector Rodriguez (19th) was the Storm's top finisher. Qualifying as an individual for the West Aurora sectional was Larkin's Carlos Miranda.

Class 3A at Grant: Dundee-Crown (3rd), Cary-Grove (4th) and Jacobs (6th) all advanced as teams to next week's Waukegan sectional. Lake Zurich and Palatine finished 1-2. Anthony Hurgoi (11th) was Dundee-Crown's top finisher while Alex Ratkovich (4th) led Cary-Grove and Zachary Albrecht (10th) paced Jacobs. Individual advancers included Crystal Lake South's Jack Becker (3rd) and Jonathon Prus (8th).

Class 3A at Batavia: Marmion finished second behind Naperville North in the team race while Batavia also advanced to next week's West Aurora sectional. Michael Ronzone (4th) and Charlie Zimmer (7th) led Marmion. Shane Knanishu (17th) was Batavia's top finisher. West Aurora's David Castillo finished 15th to advance as an individual.

Class 2A at Burlington Central: Kaneland's Matthew Richtman was the individual winner in a time of 14:52. The Knights also qualified Daniel Occhipinti, Andrew Kantola and Aidan Lodwig for next week's Belvidere sectional. Hampshire and Burlington Central will compete at that sectional as teams. The Whip-Purs were third Saturday while BC finished fifth. Jacob Oury (5th) was Hampshire's top runner and Tate Henrikson (11th) led the Rockets. Crystal Lake Central was the team champion.

Class 2A at Hinsdale South: Josh Jerwers of Aurora Central Catholic finished 25th to advance to the Wheaton Academy sectional.

Class 1A at Winnebago: Harvest Christian scored 41 points to win the team championship and advance to the Oregon sectional. Leading the way for the Lions were Andrew Dobrescu (3rd), Michael Sisko (4th), Payton Kasper (6th), Mark Davila (10th) and Kyler Young (18th). Westminster Christian's Tom Danner finished 21st to advance as an individual.

Class 1A at Lisle: St. Edward's Alex Garcia finished 24th and Aurora Christian's Stephen Kersey 28th to advance to the Oregon sectional as individuals.
