Endorsement: Chasteen for Will County circuit court clerk

With five-term Will County Circuit Court Clerk Pamela McGuire choosing not to run, whoever is elected will have big shoes to fill. County voters are lucky because they have two good candidates from which to choose.

Both candidates express the need to continue modernizing courtrooms, cross-training staff and the importance of efficiency and transparency.

Democrat Andrea Lynn Chasteen brings an institutional knowledge of the courts, having worked her way from answering questions at the counter 19 years ago to her position now as director of operations. Republican Marlene Carlson brings with her a deep information technology and management background, having run her own IT company.

In fact, both candidates give a nod to each other as educated, enthusiastic women. And they would both do a good job. However, with her extensive knowledge of the office, the Daily Herald endorses Chasteen for clerk.
