Fall means big trucks and free pumpkins in downtown Libertyville

A coordinated effort by community organizations brought families to downtown Libertyville for a welcome to fall combination that had kids scrambling over big pieces of equipment, painting pumpkins and enjoying other activities.

Church Street was closed for the Cook Park Library's 15th annual Touch a Truck event featuring the library's bookmobile, a fire truck, cherry picker and other vehicles children don't often get to see up close.

For the first 45 minutes, there were no sirens, horns, bells, whistles or buzzers as a quiet period was observed to spare young and sensitive ears.

In adjoining Cook Park, the Libertyville Junior Woman's Club, local Rotary clubs and the Dance Academy of Libertyville hosted Pumpkin Fest 2016. The harvest-themed event featured live music and dance and free pumpkins for anyone bringing donations for the Libertyville Township food pantry.
