Manteno thwarts Lisle

Manteno outlasted Lisle 35-21 in a nonconference football game Friday night at Benedictine University in Lisle.

Manteno's Gavin Zimbleman was involved in all 5 touchdowns for the Panthers (5-3). Four of the five touchdowns were via the passing game with Travelle Calvin catching all four of Zimbleman's touchdown passes.

Meanwhile Lions quarterback Mark McGrath threw a touchdown pass, caught a touchdown pass from Jay McGrath and ran for a score. In addition to being involved in touchdowns, McGrath is charged with kicking the point after.

"I love it, I love being an athlete and being an athlete means you can do anything your coaches ask you to do and do it well, and that is a challenge I like taking at every day," McGrath said.

The Lions (4-4) have a shot at the IHSA playoffs, but they will have to win on the road next week at Streator.

Even with the loss, McGrath contended that his team played well and had a solid game plan but added that a couple key turnovers helped prevent the Lions from winning their fifth game.

After the two late first-half turnovers, Lisle coach Paul Parpet Sr. said point blank that his team "didn't execute and when you don't execute, you turn the ball over."

Parpet said that he is confident that his team will win next week and he said the key to achieving that goal includes, "making plays and executing what we need to execute."
