Endorsements: Healy, Michelassi in DuPage County, Dist. 5

Incumbent Republican James Healy faces Democrat Regina Brent for a four-year term. Incumbent Democrat Tony Michelassi and Republican Janice Anderson seek a two-year term.

Naperville's Healy is extremely well-versed in county government - especially consolidation, finance and the fairgrounds. He supports body cameras for sheriff's deputies as the budget allows and opposes instituting stormwater fees or seeking home rule to raise revenue. He intentionally works with officials of both parties. Healy is endorsed.

Brent, of Aurora, grew up politically in Chicago and brings many of her concerns about urban challenges - transportation, jobs, policing - to her suburban political aspirations. Many of the issues she raises, though, are outside the purview of county government. We encourage her to stay involved as a community activist.

Michelassi of Aurora has developed a deep knowledge of county issues and the ability to work with the Republican majority while retaining his independence. Anderson is a Naperville Township trustee who supports governmental consolidation. Michelassi is endorsed.

District 5 covers all or parts of Aurora, Naperville, Lisle, Warrenville and Woodridge.
