The Daily Herald Editorial Board

The only contested seat on the DuPage County Forest Preserve Commission is in District 4 where incumbent Republican Tim Whelan is being challenged by Democrat Brian Wolter.

An attorney from Wheaton, Whelan is a straight shooter who has lived up to his promise to protect green space while also protecting taxpayers' pocketbooks. He's not afraid to stand up for his district even when he faces opposition on the commission, as in the case of his efforts to preserve the historic McKee House in the Churchill Woods Forest Preserve.

Wolter, an arborist from Carol Stream, offers a passion for nature but needs to broaden his horizons to emerge as a full-blown candidate.

Whelan is endorsed.

District 4 covers all or parts of Addison, Bloomingdale, Carol Stream, Glen Ellyn, Glendale Heights, Lisle, Lombard, Wheaton and Winfield.
