Families walk in Arlington Heights to remember lost infants

Almost 100 people attended the memorial event to honor and remember babies lost through miscarriage, ectopic pregnancy, stillbirth and newborn death.

"October is pregnancy and infant loss awareness month and we have had a walk every year for the past 26 years," said Jill Kottmeier, the Renew Through Sharing bereavement coordinator at the hospital. "It's a time for parents to honor their babies. Parents love coming here because it's a time to be around people who know what it's like."

The event started with a memorial service in the hospital auditorium, and was followed by a walk around the hospital campus, culminating with everyone blowing bubbles at the Renew Through Sharing memorial garden.

"It's such a powerful event. It is nice that the siblings are able to participate," said Missy Bluhm of Algonquin as she blew bubbles with her children, Aiden, 5, and Allie, 3, in memory of Abby, who was lost in November 2009.
