Community invited to make mats for homeless October 17

For the second year, the Indian Trails Public Library has partnered with St. Edna Catholic Church volunteers and National Louis University staff to teach people how to make sleeping mats for those who are homeless, Monday, Oct 17, 6:30-8:30 pm, National Louis University, 1000 Capitol Drive, Wheeling.

The program, which is free, drew more than 70 people last year.

"Our goal is to train participants how to make these mats and then encourage them to finish them at home and return completed mats to the library or St. Edna Church," said Jenny Reid, Indian Trails librarian. "Being able to repeat it this year in a larger space is a wonderful opportunity for more people to be involved in this project."

During the two hour program, participants will learn how to crochet thin plastic bags together to form mats. Between 500-700 bags are used to make each mat. All supplies will be provided, but participants are encouraged to bring a size M or N crochet needle, scissors and extra bags if they wish.

Registration for the program is requested at http://bit.ly/2cNf0vo. For more information call 847-459-4100.
