Columbus holiday is Starved Rock State Park's busiest

UTICA, Ill. (AP) - Visitors to Starved Rock State Park in LaSalle County should expect traffic delays and possible temporary park closures Saturday through Monday.

The Columbus Day weekend is typically the busiest for the popular state park in Utica. Officials say visitors should arrive early and follow directions of park staff law enforcement officers.

If parking fills up, the park will close temporarily until space is free. Motorists should not park along park roads or highways. They might block emergency vehicles. Violators will be towed.

Hikers at Starved Rock and nearby Matthiessen State Park should follow rules and clean up their trash.

Lodge parking will be restricted to those who have lodge or brunch reservations.

Visitors may get updates on the Starved Rock information station, 1610 AM, or online.
