Is it too high, too low, or just right? Would you propose any changes?I believe a salary over $50,000 for part-time board members is too high. The taxpayers also pay for special privileges, such as pensions. I support cutting the pay and eliminating special privileges, including pensions. Ultimately, I hope these savings could stay in the pocketbooks of the taxpayer.Do you think county board members should receive pensions? Why or why not? If not, would you be willing to pledge not to take one?No, I do not think part-time county board members should receive special privileges that other part-time workers do not receive, including the pension. I believe this creates an unfair and unjust pay system in DuPage County. I pledge not to be part of the pension problem and opt-out of the pension if elected. With DuPage County's budget being squeezed by state funding cuts and other factors, what initiatives would you support to increase revenue and/or save money?I would work more with volunteer groups to resolve community solutions without government funds. I believe in most communities, there are enough resources and people willing to help solve community problems and to improve the community. One example is the Community Patch Garden. Land and plants were donated to grow food for those in need. Volunteers and those in need could help grow and distribute food. If we could have more local spots for people to access garden space, this could help the 32,000 people in DuPage whose food resources are insecure and without costing the taxpayers a dime. What are your thoughts about the county's Accountability, Consolidation and Transparency Initiative? What role should DuPage play in efforts to streamline and consolidate local government?I believe government should always strive to be accountable, consolidate where there is a savings, and be transparent. These should be inherent goals of any government. An initiative to place these goals into action is a good starting point. DuPage County could be a leader and be the example of streamlined and consolidated efforts for local government. We should take a good look at the budget to ensure the money spent is for the most efficient and appropriate use. What initiatives, if any, do you have in mind for your specific county board district?Use more of the $52 million revenue from the Regional Transportation Authority on Transportation. If a proposed product or service could be run by local groups or a separate public benefit company run by, for, and of the people, to initiate a two-prong test: 1) will there be a increase of quality and 2) will there be a saving? What other issues, if any, are important to you as a candidate for this office?I hope to provide more representation to the shrinking middle-class, those who are low-income, small businesses, and to the taxpayers overall. Often, in the decision making process- I think we undervalue one of our most greatest assets - the community. I hope to make it easy for people to participate in the government process and to rely more on the community to solve problems and improve our county. Please name one current leader who most inspires you.Liz Chaplin, she is true champion of the people. What is the biggest lesson you learned at home growing up?If you want something done right, do it yourself. If life gave you one do-over, what would you spend it on?Run for office to represent the people at a younger age. What was your favorite subject in school and how did it help you in later life?History, it helped me develop an understanding of economics, law, and politics. If you could give your children only one piece of advice, what would it be?Treat others how you want to be treated.
