Patrick Dempsey saddles up for Dempsey Challenge fundraiser

LEWISTON, Maine (AP) - Actor Patrick Dempsey is saddling up as the "Dempsey Challenge" draws to a close.

The actor who stars in "Bridget Jones's Baby" rode Sunday on a 25-mile event with his three children during the final day of the two-day bike-and-run fundraiser in Lewiston, Maine.

The event is a fundraiser for The Dempsey Center at the Central Maine Medical Center. He and his sisters were inspired to help create the center in 2008 by their mother, who died from cancer last year.

Dempsey, who grew up in Maine, stars in "Bridget Jones's Baby" and before that became widely known as a doctor nicknamed McDreamy on TV's "Grey's Anatomy."
